Early Life and Education

William Shakespear was born and baptized the 26th of April 1564 Stratford-Avon, New England. His father John was a successful apprentice of leather furniture and his mother Mary was the daughter of a wealthy land owning farmer. William was the first of their children to reach adulthood out of three that died. At the age of six attended Stratford grammar school . Very little English was taught but Shakespeare took advantage of every little bit of it.  School hours every year were twice as long as today.
To acquire most professions you would need to know most areas of education from grammar to astronomy. There were rigorous tests every week and if you did not pass you will receive physical punishment. William then left school at the age of fifteen because of his father financial problems to work at a job to help the family with some funds to survive.

One physical contribution to society was the Globe theater, even though the original one does not exist anymore the replica had much potential in history in it as well as the previous one.

He had composed one hundred and fifty-four sonnets which genre was impeccable said the critics of the time which talks about love , passion and death. His critical reputation was not something to laugh about, as critics would single him out as the most excellent in both tragedy and comedy. He was admired and we inspired.

Found Poetry From Night

Eight words

Spoken quietly,

My sisters moving away,

My mother stroking my sister’s hair

I had no time to think

I went on walking

parting away from my mother

I held onto my hand

An endless night

Towards dawn

Reading Guide Questions-Section 1 & 2

1) Why do you think the Germans chose to hang a few prisoners in public at a time when they are murdering thousands each day in the crematoriums?

The Germans chose to hang a few prisoners in public  at  a time when they had a crematory because they wanted to let the Jews know that this would be a warning and an example to all prisoners. Also they wanted to keep some prisoners scared so they could have control.

2) Give example of the ways Elie’s relationship with his father changes throughout the book. What causes those changes?

The changes between Elie and his father that occurred during the story, were that his father started to lose hope in himself and began getting weaker each day. But, Elie kept trying to encourage his dad for him not to lose faith and to continue wanting to live. There was a point in the story where Elie hoped he lost his father so that he can get rid of the dead weight, but when he found him he stayed by his side till he was taken by the SS soldiers to be taken to the crematory.

3) After Elie’s father was chosen for selection, he gives his son a knife and a spoon. Why is this a significant act? What does Elie mean when he says “the inheritance”?

Elie’s father gives his son a knife and a spoon after being chosen for selection because its the only inheritance the family has left. Also, his father knew he wasn’t coming back , so he gave him the knife and spoon. The reason this is a significant act is because this is all his father has left in his life. What Elie means by inheritance is that this is all he has left to remember his family.

4) At the beginning of the book, Elie described himself as someone who believed “profoundly.” How have his experiences at Auschwitz affected his faith?

With all the tortured and mistreatment happening to Jews at Auschwitz, with many believing and praying to God for miracles, without being blessed with any, Elie lost all faith in God.Elie stilled believed in God but he did not believe on his faith anymore.

5)  At one point on the cattle train trip to Buchenwald, a German workman causes a “stampede” in the wagon. How dose he do this? What do his actions suggest about him? What dose this incident suggest about the prisoners?

The Germans working causes a stampede in the wagon by throwing a piece of bread in the wagon where their is a full of starving Jews trying to survive. For what he did he is considered a cruel man and knowing that the wagon was full of Jews starving for food.A leader convinces easily manipulate boys to attack leading into a stampede.

6) What conflict arises in Elie regarding his father?

The conflict that Elie goes through with his father was about how his father wanted to sit on the ground like the others and give up. Although Elie felt as though he wasn’t arguing with him but death its self. Also, another conflict i think arises is when Elie refused to give up his Gold Crown a Kapo by the name of Idek beats Elie’s father until Elie cant take it anymore and gives the Gold Crown anyway.

7) What happens on January 28, 1945? What was Elie’s emotional state at this a this point?

January 28, 1945 was the day that Elie’s father was taken from him and sent to the crematory. After Elie emotional state at that point was that he lost everything and nothing else mattered but him trying to survive.

8) In the next to the last sentence in the book, Elie says that when he look in a mirror after liberation, he sees a corpse gazing back at him. He ends the book stating, “The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me.” What dose that sentence mean?

At the end of the book when Elie looks in the mirror and says “The look in his eye, as they stared into mine, has never left me.” What he means is that he will never forgot his pass and will always stay with him. Or I also believe it means that the feeling that he had when he was staring and the corpse, that feeling has never left and haunts him to this very day.

9) How has Elie tried to keep you from respond to his story the way he and his father once responded to the one told by Moshe the Beadle? How successful has he been?

How Elie and his father heard the story from Moshe the Beadle Elie kept us from what happens after his father dies.

10) What is the meaning of the title, Night? If you were to give another title to the book, what would it be and why?

I believe that the title Night expresses Elie’s emotions through out this terrible ordeal. He felt lost and trapped in the dark/Night. If i could change the title I would call it “Holocaust Through Elie’s Eyes” because the story tells us about what hes been through and how he seen everything that went on around him.

Article Of The Week-Is Soda The New Tabacco?

Nov. 8, 2010

Soda, the new tabacco ? It most seems like it. The percentage of the number of soda that is being consumed is continueing to rise. The problem is that at roughly 50 gallons per person per year, our consumption of soda, not to mention other sugar-sweetened beverages, is far from moderate, and appears to be an important factor in the rise in childhood obesity. On the other hand, the affect that has on people isn’t the same as it would be for tabacco. Soda isn’t harmfull, nor is it addictive. But, from the consumtion of all soda being drinked out there, I highly predict can and will lead at least one person to become a diabetic. I personally suggest America should lower the consumtion of soda and safe thier lives now. Im not saying they shouldn’t drink soda, I’m saying they should try limit themselves to only 1 a day. This will be very usefull to there health and have one more less sickness they would have to worry about.

Article Of The Week-Sagging Jeans? Go Directly To Jail.

Nov. 1 , 2010

saggy jeans

I strongly agree with the article, i disapprove  of sagging jeans. I don’t understand why people can keep their jeans sagged. I disagree with the sagging jeans because I personally think it shows disrespect to others when they see your underwear and seems like you don’t care about the world. It’s a free country and people have the right to do whatever they want thats not breaking the law, even sagging their jeans, but more and more percentage have increased and is getting out of control. This is what i had to say about this article, wich is strongly dissaprove with sagging jeans!

Lap #4 Q&A, The Night !

1. Elie describes himself as a young, religious and strong but loving individual which seeks revenge but maintains calm.

2.Moshe the Beadle is a man of all work at a Kasidic Synagogue. He is a very poor but lived humbly. He is a mentor, a storyteller but more importantly he was one of the council leaders of the Jewish community.

3. Some rejected Moshe’s stories but some also believed him, some got ready for the invasion of Nazis and some could had cared less.

4. I think it starts with Moshe because he is a mentor I personally think that elders are the wiser of all people so wisdom from the beginning will create a better and vivid image. Also create a area for all Jewish people in Sighet.

5.German soilders took over Sighet by over coming  the government and capturing each country by country.

6. Elie’s family got seperated by females and males go to different camps of part of camps.

7.Germans take away the inmates personal belongings because it is all a source of currency and it was useless where they were going. The clothing was taken because clothes we presented to them to let people know they were prisoners. They cut their hair because to easily be cleaned and others were experimented on. The tattoo marked them for life so German’s can identify them for roll call.

8. The phrase Eile said meant that since it was their first time in the camp it was the hardest and longest because they just got accustomed to the way of life in the camp.

9. Well, I think it is very unfortunate that the Jews were treated like animals by the Nazis. Eile experienced many actions taken by the Nazi soldiers. For example his mother and sister separated in a flash, his father hit before his own eyes for doing nothing wrong. This novel is a very colorful and distinct true story put in a book. The holocaust was a very dreadful genocide because of a peoples religion and beliefs. I electrified about all that Eile has been through as well as of all the Jewish people in the camps.
